THE CURIOUS STORY OF BURLANEGRA
If anyone knew about rum, it was the pirates. When the rum in the barrels ran out, they refilled them with seawater, using them as ballast to maintain the ship’s balance. As crafty pirates, whenever they had the chance, they would swap the seawater back for rum, giving it a unique salinity. The weather during the voyages, the rocking waves, the presence of seawater in the hold, and the porosity of the barrels created a small "ecosystem" that contributed to this intriguing saline character. Burlanegra brings this story back to life through the concept of Shipping Solera, recreating the flavor of rum infused with seawater, making it a truly unique sensory experience.
Rum with an audacious saline twist
CRAFTED WITH DOUBLE AGING
Burlanegra is distilled and aged in the Dominican Republic for 12 months. It then undergoes a second aging at Bodegas Osborne for at least 6 months in 35 specially selected barrels of Amontillado 51-1ª VORS (Very Old Rare Sherry) wine from Jerez. The Amontillado 51-1ª VORS solera is an exceptional solera, with 6-8 years of biological aging and 22 years of oxidative aging, resulting in barrels that have held Amontillado for around 30 years and impart a unique salinity. Like most spirits, Burlanegra is hydrated in its final phase to adjust its alcohol content, using a percentage of water from the Atlantic Ocean, which gives it a bold saline entry on the palate.
