BURLANEGRA HISTORY: THE "SHIPPING SOLERA"
If anyone knew about rum, it was the pirates. When the rum ran out in the barrels on their ships, they would refill them with seawater and use them as ballast to keep the ship balanced. Being true pirates, whenever possible, they replaced the seawater with rum, giving it a unique salinity.
The weather during their voyages, the rocking of the waves, the presence of seawater in the ship's hold, and the porousness of the barrels created a small ‘ecosystem’ that contributed to that intriguing saline character.
Burlanegra brings this story back through the concept of "Shipping Solera", recreating the taste of rum infused with sea salt, making it a truly unique sensory experience.

RUM-MAKING PROCESS: DOUBLE AGING
FIRST AGING:
Ron Burlanegra is born in the Dominican Republic, where it spends its first 12 months aging. This tropical environment imparts warmth and smoothness to the spirit. The result is a naturally golden, honey-hued liquid with vanilla and citrus aromas.
SECOND AGING:
The rum is then aged for an additional 6 months at Osborne’s cellars in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, in exceptional Amontillado 51-1ª VORS sherry casks. This process adds intensity and the distinctive saline twist of aged Amontillado Sherry wines.
This casks are essential in this process, as they have held a wine aged for over 6 years under biological aging and 22 years under oxidative aging. The result is a rum that is complex, elegant, and intriguingly saline, with notes of wood, English toffee, and peach.
AN AUDACIOAUS TWIST with saline water:
The final touch of boldness comes in the last step of its creation. The addition of Atlantic Ocean water transforms this rum into the boldest in its category.
