Fermentation at controlled temperature with a maceration period of between 25 and 35 days in contact with the grape skins. The second fermentation occurs spontaneously in our underground tanks, after which the wine is transferred to Bordeaux casks of selected oak. It remains there for a long period before being refined in the bottle.
Deep cherry red color with glints of terracotta, clean and bright. In the nose, intense aromas of very ripe fruit, with balsamic touches. In the mouth, intense and powerful, with a good body. Meaty, satisfyingly warm, flavorsome, with marked, elegant tones of blackberries and licorice. Long and persistent.
The 2001 vintage was classified as Excellent by the D.O.Rioja, and is without doubt one of the stand-out vintages of recent decades. Montecillo Special Selection wines are only made in years of exceptional harvests, creating wines which are very robust, powerful and complete.
Ideal for dishes which marry with and enhance the velvety smoothness of this wine. Excellent with stews, casseroles and meats, especially game birds like partridge and pheasant.
